At last after so much efforts, Sri Lanka became the first team to enter the finals of the cricket world cup 2011. In a very exciting match played at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka managed to beat the New Zealand with five wickets haul. The fantastic innings of T Dilshan and K Sangakkara was the biggest plus point of the Sri Lankan team.

On the other side New Zealand also tried hard to enter the finals, but they could not break the old jinx. Hard luck for the Kiwi team.

One more quarter finals and one more team confirmed their spot in the semis. New Zealand became the 3rd team that entered the semi finals after a very exciting match with South Africa. Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur Bangladesh became the witness of this very interesting match. Fantastic bowling by Jacob Oram was the key factor of the victory of the Kiwi team.

South Africa as usual again choked leading to its defeat by 49 runs. Although the target was not so big, in fact it was looking quite easy at one point of time. But hard luck for the South African team.

Crushing the Kangaroo team with 5 wickets haul, India at last took their revenge of the 2003 world cup final. The entire Motera stadium in Ahmedabad was echoing and cheering for Indian team.

Yuvraj Singh again acted as the savior for the Indian team. His brilliant innings of 57 runs, along with 2 wickets haul he emerged as the clear winner. On the other hand Australian team was very disappointed with its own performance. It was also the last World Cup of Ricky Pointing.

Valley of Flowers

Vaishno Devi Yatra


Located at the top of the Trikuta Hills in Jammu and Kashmir, is the holy shrine of Goddess Shakti, known as the 'Vaishno Devi'. Every year millions of Hindu devotees come to this sacred place to seek the divine blessings of the Goddess Shakti.

Location:
The Vaishno Devi temple is situated about 12 km from Katra in the Udhampur district (of J&K). This pilgrim center is basically a 100 feet long cave that has three rock cut statues of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Kali and Goddess Saraswati.

Legends:
There are many interesting myths that are associated with the origin of the Vaishno Devi temple. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi is an incarnation of Lakshmi, Kali and Saraswati who came down on earth to kill the demon King Mahishasura. She was named Vaishnavi by her human parents. Once when she was meditating in the jungle a man called Bhairon Nath saw her. He insisted on marrying her but she refused. Finally to escape him she ran away into the jungles and hided into a cave. After much time she confronted Bhairon Nath and beheaded him. After realizing his mistakes he begged for forgiveness. Goddess Vaishnavi forgave him and blessed him that without visiting his temple her pilgrimage can not be completed. Since then people come to this cave for worshiping the devi in her statue form.

The Journey to the Temple:
After arriving at the Jammu railway station, you have to travel 50 km to reach Katra from where the main journey to the Vaishno Devi starts. Once you come to Katra you can relax at the several dharmshalas situated here. Next morning the 13 km journey to the main Bhawan begins with the holy enchants of 'Jai Mata di'. The first stop of this route is the Banganga where the pilgrims take holy bath and rest for some time. Next destination is the Charanpadhuka the footprints of the goddess. Finally after resting at the Ardhkumari Temple, the pilgrims arrive at the Bhawan of Mata Vaishno Devi where they offer prayers at the three pindies inside the divine cave.

Along with the holy darshans of Mata Vaishno Devi one can also enjoy the mesmerizing scenic beauty of the snow covered Himalayas and the lush green valleys.

Shah Jahan kept the promises and erected a magnificent memorial dedicated to his beloved wife. The construction of Taj Mahal India began in the year 1632 and took 22 years for its completion. The white mausoleum was built by a labour force of 20, 000 people. The group of skilled architects, stone-carvers, inlay craftsmen, calligraphers and mansions were appointed to build this the historical building.

Taj Mahal Architecture
The stunning architecture of Taj Mahal is a perfect blend of Central Asian, Persian and Islamic style of architecture. White marble building stands on a raised, square platform with its four abridged corners, making an unequal octagon. The central dome of Taj Mahal measures 213 feet in height and 58 feet in diameter, which stand bordered with four intricately carved chambers. A burial crypt inside the monument houses the tombs of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Holi Celebrations

With the beginning of March, several vibrant colors are spread in every corner of India. As this is the time when everyone is drenched in complete festive mood of the Holi celebrations. Holi is one the most popular Hindu festival of the country and is very colorful and vibrant in its appeal.

The 'Lath Maar' holi celebrations of Barsana are popular all around the world, in fact international travelers especially come to India to witness the fun and frolic of this fest. In the southern part of the country people worship Kaamdev, the God of love.

Yesterday's match played at the Feroz Shah Kotla grounds in Delhi, saw a brilliant innings by Yuvraj Singh, who emerged as the match winner. With this win India confirmed its place in the quarter-finals. Chasing a target of 190 runs India lost early 5 wickets. But somehow with the fantastic partnership of Yuvraj and Dhoni managed to register a 5 wicket victory.

Although this win was not well received by many cricketing legends. According to them Indian team has much potential and they can do much better than it.

Yesterday the Kiwi team gifted a fantastic win over Pakistan to the birthday boy Ross Taylor. Playing a brilliant not out innings of 131 runs, Ross proved that New Zealand is still a big competition in 2011 World Cup. Pakistan on the other side faced their first defeat of this world cup and that too with a huge margin of 110 runs. Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka became the battle ground for these two teams.

Finally after so much efforts Canada won their first match in world cup 2011. Beating Kenya with a 5 wickets haul the Canadian bowlers showed their real strength. Yesterday's match played at the Ferozshah Kotla stadium in Delhi saw some really interesting batting innings. Batting first Kenya gave an easy target of 199 runs which the Canadian team achieved in just 45.3 overs.

After a facing a disgracing defeat by the Irish team, England finally took their revenge. Although this time the opponents were the South African team who lost a very close match with a margin of just 6 runs. Sunday's match between England and South Africa, saw some really good bowling action by Stuart Board who took 4 wickets. Although the battling line up of English team were not so impressive but the bowlers created the magic on the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai.

In response the South African batsmen started very well but soon gave up against the opponents. At last the English team claimed their victory.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011-Ind vs Ire

The Indian innings was opened with a fantastic boundary by Virender Sehwag. Although he got out in the same over yet to win this match India has to put in extra efforts. Yesterday's match between India and Ireland played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore saw some really interesting twist and turns. The Irish team gave a not so big target of 208 runs to the Indian team.

In response the Indian team started very well but soon the wickets started falling. At one point it was looking quite difficult to win this match. But with the brilliant innings of Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Patahn India finally won the match with 5 wickets.

Another mind blowing performance by the Kiwi team and another disappointment for the fans of the Zimbabwean team. Yesterday's match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe played at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad saw some really fantastic bowling efforts of the Kiwi players. Restricting the opponents at just 162 runs, in a very crucial Group A match New Zealand team is all geared up to enter the quarter finals.

Taking the wickets at regular intervals Kiwi blowers crushed the hopes of Zimbabwe of making a big score. Even the batsmen were looking very defensive since the beginning and finally won the match with 10 wickets.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011-WI vs Ban

Yesterday's match between West Indies and Bangladesh was, one of the shortest match in the history of Cricket World Cup. It was also one of the worst performances of the Bangladeshi team at their home ground. The fantastic bowling line up of the West Indian team crushed all the hopes of their opponents by restricting them to a mere score of just 58 runs.

The Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur Dhaka became the battle ground for these two teams. It was a very easy target for the West Indies team that they achieved in 12.2 overs. This loss made the Bangladeshi fans so furious that they even attacked the bus carrying the players of the West Indies team.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011-SA vs Neth

Crushing the entire Dutch team with a huge margin of 231 runs, the South African team is leading the point tally of Group B. The brilliant batting line up along with fantastic bowling helped South Africa in achieving their biggest victory in World Cup 2011. The Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh became the battle ground where this magic was seen in yesterday's match.

The power packed innings of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and J P Dumminy drove their team to a huge score of 351 runs. Netherlands on the other side tried their best to achieve this score but leg spinner Imran Tahir and Jacques Kallis shattered all the hopes of the Dutch team.

Wildlife Conservation In India


The rich wild world of India has always been a subject of fascination, for the enthusiastic wildlife lovers. Project Tiger:
Started in the year 1973-74, Project Tiger was the first ever successful attempt by the Indian Government to preserve the most popular animal of India ie 'Tiger'. In this project a total of nine wildlife sanctuaries were transformed into into tiger reserves that provided them protection from hunting. In the year 1993, the number of these sanctuaries were increased to 27. As a result of these reserves there was a steady increase in the tiger population.

Wildlife Conservation Society:
Also known as WCS, this program was started in 1986 at Nagarhole National Park. Every year more and more environmentalists, naturalists, wildlife conservationists associated themselves with this society. scientific research, national capacity building, policy interventions, site-based conservation and developing new models of wildlife conservation are the main agendas of WCS.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011-Pak vs Can

With his fantastic five wickets haul, Shahid Afridi again came to the rescue of his team. 17th match of the Group A between Pakistan and Canada that was played at the R Premdasa stadium in Colombo-Sri Lanka, saw some really interesting moments. As the skipper of the Pakistani team, Afridi proved his metal. Although not with his bat but he created magic with his unbelievable spin bowling. With this he also became the highest wicket taker of 2011 world cup till date.

Chasing a not so big score of 185 runs, the entire Canadian team got out on just 138 runs. With its consecutive wins Pakistan is also emerging as a prominent winner of Cricket World Cup 2011.
